Principal topics of interest in IAS events are applications of computer algebra and technical computing in mathematics, computer science, the physical and biological sciences, engineering, economics, the arts, and education. The seminar provides a forum for researchers, teachers, and even students, from diverse fields to present original work, and to learn about current developments and uses of advanced scientific computing. A central objective is to secure as many students as possible to participate in the seminar.

Besides scientific computing aspects, at IAS 2018 we also focused on artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, internet of things, and trustworthy computing. Furthermore, we discussed the influence of the rapid AI development on the fields like economics and health care.

The 7th International Arctic Seminar, IAS 2018, followed the successful seminars in Murmansk, where a number of papers related to symbolic computation have been presented by lecturers from Austria, Finland, Germany, Norway, Russia, and the USA.

The IAS 2018 event took place at the Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Rantavitikka Campus, Jokiväylä 11, 96300 Rovaniemi, Finland.
